Anne MCFAUL (nee Lauderdale)

Obituary of Anne Louise MCFAUL (nee Lauderdale)

November 26, 1935 - December 29, 2019

Anne Louise McFaul - beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend – passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the age of 84 years.

Anne was born in Winnipeg, MB, on November 26, 1935 and moved with her family to Calgary, AB, in 1951.  She married Arthur McFaul in 1955 and they raised three children together in Calgary – Jo Anne, Beth, and David.

Anne was an extraordinary woman in every respect.  She had a unique gift for making everyone she knew feel loved, happy, and special.  She had many interests, was highly intelligent, and excelled at everything she did.

Anne was passionate about music. She had a beautiful voice and sang in church choirs as a soprano all her life.  She was a soloist at many weddings and funerals and sang in Handel’s Messiah at the Jubilee Auditorium for several years.

In her early 40’s, Anne completed her BSc and Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary.  She was a counsellor at William Roper Hull Home and the Pastoral Institute which later became the Calgary Counselling Centre.  She then established a private counselling practice in Calgary until her retirement in 2003.  Anne served as President of the Alberta Psychologists Assoc.  She took great pleasure in mentoring many people over the years and spent a lifetime in service to others.

Anne was a dedicated volunteer serving her local church, schools, and community for many years including being a sponsor with AlAnon.  She chaired numerous committees including school Parent Councils, Summer Bible School, and the Social Committee at Cathedral Manor where she lived since 2003.

Anne was an avid fan of chuckwagon racing, the Flames, and the Stampeders.  She was an expert in needlework and created many works of art that will be treasured.  She was an exceptional interior decorator and organizer and loved collectibles including Royal Doultons.  She could solve the most difficult crossword and Sudoku puzzles and enjoyed reading, playing bridge, selling Mary Kay, visiting with friends and family, cuddling babies, playing with toddlers, and eating ice cream.

Anne was extremely kind, compassionate, and generous.  She assisted anyone who was in need in any way she could, such as following her mother’s tradition of inviting people who were alone to family dinners.  Love was the motivation for everything she did.

Above all else, family was the most important aspect of Anne’s life.  She was devoted to her children as well as her immediate and extended family and she created loving relationships and a family environment of a quality that is very rare.  In the past six years, her eight great-grandchildren gave her incredible joy.  She has left a tremendous legacy of caring and love, and her family and friends have many fond memories to cherish.  We will all miss her cheerful presence, her beautiful smile and her infectious laughter.

Anne is survived by her children JoAnne Atkins (Gordon), Beth Eva (Martin), and David McFaul; her grandchildren Doug Atkins (Esther), Kerry Atkins (John Webb), and Christy Goodwin (Sean); and eight great-grandchildren, Tenley and Wyatt Atkins, McCarthy, Ruth, Connor, and Pryce Atkins Webb, and Owen and Liam Goodwin.  She is also survived by her siblings, Sheila Campbell and Mark Lauderdale, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Anne was predeceased by her parents, Les and Eva (Worboys) Lauderdale, her former husband, Art McFaul, and her brother-in-law, Bob Campbell.
