Obituary of Helene Marguerite ZURAWELL (nee Scheffer)

December 6, 1964 – Ottawa, Ontario
December 28, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Helene Zurawell, beloved wife of Raymond Zurawell of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the age of 55 years after fighting a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Ottawa, Ontario on December 6, 1964 to Denise and Bernie Scheffer.  Helene was a wife but most importantly, a soul mate to Ray. She was also a loving, caring Mom to Owen and Raylene.

Helene loved planning family holidays and adventures that were full of laughter and just plain old fun!  There was always time to listen and find out what was important to her family. She just seemed to know what to say or how to help them by providing sound advice in difficult situations.

Being a positive person, Helene always saw the brighter side of life irrespective of the situation. There was always a beautiful smile to share and she had the most infectious laugh that was contagious. Her laughter was second to none, especially when you were a victim of her tricks and practical jokes. No matter who you were she always had time to get to know you. Helene gave herself fully to anything she tried and to anyone she knew. A true friend you were blessed to have. Always there to help or to listen, she just knew what to say and do.

Helene’s strength was amazing, not just her physical strength but the mental strength needed to work through all the tough things life handed out. Never did she complain about her situation no matter how tough it was, she just saw the bright side of any challenging situation.

Helene is survived by her loving husband of twenty-nine years, Ray and her beautiful children, Owen and Raylene; her mother Denise Scheffer; sister Sue Scheffer; nephew Ben and brothers, Luc and Guy; as well, she will be greatly missed by all her other family, the Zurawells.  Helene was predeceased by her father Bernie.
