Condolences
My condolences to Lil’s family. Lil was a dear friend of mine for the last 8 or more years. I met Lil one day when I was walking my dogs past her home. I live 2 streets over. What a lovely lady I though. We soon became great friends. She loved my dogs and I soon learned that although there was an age difference we had much in common. We would chat for hours, telling stories of time gone by. She loved to sew and craft as did I. She told stories about her family camping trips, how she put her children in snow suits when they were too small to use a sleeping bag. How she made sweet treats out of potatoes which I have made myself since. I recall threading her sewing machines for her. White thread for the black machine and black thread for the white machine. How she would shoveled the snow back onto the grass a foot so that the melting wouldn't pool on the sidewalk making it icy. She spoke about her love of dogs and how she trained them. I loved how she changed the picture of her husband with the seasons. She loved her children and was proud of who they became. She spoke of her Grand daughters and she was especially excited about her Great Grand children. I was saddened to hear of her youngest Grand daughter’s tragic accident. She was thankful and grateful for her nephew who would come around to help her maintain her home. She spoke about the adventures traveling in the camper van with her daughter and the dog sledding adventure in the moonlight. She loved every minute of it. I could go on and on about the conversations we had. Our visit would last for hours not wanting them to end. We’d chat it up right to the sidewalk at the end of her drive. We both had the same passion for gardening and she would share her marigold seeds with me. I loved that she brought her geraniums in for the winter. I would always rub the leaves as I loved that smell. I loved her bright Orange curtains in the kitchen. She was a beautiful colorful lady. We shared the same wedding anniversary date. Oct 8th although many years apart. I’m sorry that I was not able to visit more recently as I was having some setbacks with my health. I just noticed a for sale sign on her lawn and knew then something changed. She had a wonderful long life here and I’m happy now she is resting peacefully. I will miss you Lil, I’m grateful for all of your wise words. I learnt so much form you and will never forget you my dear friend. Love you Lil. xoxo

Lil was a really lovely lady. She was strong, independent, extremely kind and had a great sense of humour. I always enjoyed listening to her fascinating stories about growing up in Calgary in the 20's and 30's. Condolences to Donna, Gord and her family.
One of my favourite memories of Lil is having her join me on my bluebird trail. She showed great enjoyment in observing the adult bluebirds, and enthusiastically participated in holding the nestlings after they were banded. The day was even better when Lil shared her famous marshmallow squares. Yummy!

Sending love and condolences to Lil's family. I will remember Lil as one of the shining stars of 18th Street and consider myself fortunate to have grown up with her as a neighbor and friend. She will be missed.
