Obituary of John Alfred BARKER

It is with sadness that the family of John (Jack) Alfred Barker announces his passing on Monday, December 30, 2019, at the age of 89.

Jack was married to Pauline for over 59 years and was just recently widowed. He leaves behind son Murray Barker (Jen Ellerman); daughters, Maureen Barker, Allison (Dale) Palmer, Sharon (Duane) Schreiner; granddaughter Kathryn Palmer; brother Jim (Betty) Barker; sister-in-law Lorraine Barker; and several nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by an infant daughter Theresa.

A highlight for Jack was Square Dancing in the 1988 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies.  He also enjoyed travelling with family, Hawaii was a personal favourite. He travelled to Disneyland several times including their honeymoon in 1959. Jack worked as a Canada Post Letter Carrier for 38 years, enduring hot summers and cold winters. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping for summer vacations, endless gardening, listening to music and reading.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Church. Condolences may be shared at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack’s name to the Poppy Fund through the Canadian Legion or a charity of your choice.
