Obituary of Alan Ross MONTGOMERY

February 11, 1951 – Moncton, New Brunswick
January 4, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Forever in our hearts, Alan Montgomery passed away peacefully in the early hours on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the age of 68 years.

Alan was born the youngest of four children in Moncton, NB, to Fern and Alfred Montgomery. He grew up with a love for sports and excelled in basketball, baseball and hockey as a young boy, and golf as an adult. Having moved around a lot as a young boy, he was a natural traveler and enjoyed planning and taking many family trips. Alan was always seeking more education and knowledge, and pursued and completed his Master of Arts in Sociology in 1991. He taught sociology for a number of years at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University. It was through school and his time as a half-way house manager for the John Howard Society that Alan developed his life-long passion for helping those around him. Managing the Human Resources and Administrative Departments for a growing oil and gas company was the highlight of his career.

Alan made friends easily, and could talk to anyone about any topic. He maintained relationships over many decades, and his friendships were cherished. He enjoyed meeting at small local coffee shops or while on the hunt for the next great burger. He combined his love for reading, coffee shops, and maintaining close personal relationships by completing and publishing a collection of short stories with a group of friends in 2016.

Alan was a devoted father to his daughters Lauren (Thomas Hunt) and Jenica Montgomery, and soul mate and best golf buddy to Donna Leibham.

Special thanks to Dr. Daniel Heng, nurse Glenda, Dr. Jun Kawakami, and the AHS Urban Home Palliative Care team for their excellent care over the years.
