Obituary of Lawrence (Larry) David LOCKREM

Lawrence (Larry) David Lockrem resident of Calgary, AB, formerly of Wembley, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the age of 84 years.

 

Larry was born July 12, 1935 in Bentley, AB. He moved to the Wembley area in the late 1960's and married Sheila Thomson on May 2, 1970.

 

Larry worked on oil rigs, farmed near Wembley, and worked 29 years with Canfor in Grande Prairie. He liked hunting, playing golf, pool, cards, walking, and dancing. He also enjoyed watching baseball, football, western movies and nature shows. Larry liked to travel, he especially liked attending Lockrem Family Reunions, and family trips to the Dominican Republic.

 

Larry volunteered with the Wembley Volunteer Fire Dept. for 10 years and received several Red Cross Blood Donor Awards and other recognitions for his volunteer work. He was an active member of several seniors clubs in Wembley and Calgary and was always willing to help out wherever he could. Larry’s smile and good humour made him well liked by everyone who knew him. He was a kind and generous man, and even through his battle with Alzheimer's he maintained his gentle spirit. Larry will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

 

Larry is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years Sheila; daughter Holly (Calgary), and son David (Wembley). He is also survived by brothers: Ron (Wembley), Allan (Grande Prairie); sisters: Doris Simpson (Rycroft), Edie (Pat) Henker (Calgary); sisters-in-law, Gladys (Sundre), Darlene (Grande Prairie); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Tillie Lockrem; his brothers, Ray, George and Leonard; sister, Alice; and in-laws, Joe and Grace Thomson.
