Alfreda PETRI

Obituary of Alfreda Katherine PETRI

May 21, 1929 – Sprendlingen, Germany
January 15, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Alfreda Petri, beloved wife of the late Kurt Petri of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the age of 90 years.

Alfreda spent her childhood and young adult life in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1955 to join her husband in their newly adopted homeland.  She called Calgary home most of her adult life, with the exception of a twelve year period when, upon retiring with Kurt to Penticton, they “escaped” the Calgary climate, enjoying the hospitable surrounds of the Okanagan and a good community of German friends.

The English language skills she brought to Canada enabled Alfreda to enter the work force quickly and integrate into Canadian life.  She was employed at the J.H. Ashdown Hardware Company for several years, and thereafter for many years as secretary of Scarboro United Church.

In her early years, Alfreda loved to draw and paint and took an interest in a variety of handicrafts. She enjoyed reading and German poetry. While taking many return vacation trips to her homeland and the US, Alfreda was overall the consummate “home body” and found her contentment in quiet pursuits “far from the madding crowd”.  She loved her privacy and her home where she could indulge her creative domestic flair.  She loved fashion and had a unique personal flair.  Alfreda was an observant person with a mischievous sense of humour and quick wit.

Alfreda will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Veronica Petri of Calgary, and Lorraine Petri of Coquitlam, BC; their partners, Douglas Leslie and Rick Fleming; her friends in Calgary, and many family members and friends in Germany. Alfreda was predeceased by her husband of sixty-five years, Kurt, in 2015.

A private family service will be held. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Alfreda’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
