Obituary of Elizabeth SALAHOR (nee Vlchek)

Elizabeth Salahor, beloved wife of Ronald John Salahor of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the age of 86 years.

Betty was born in Owlseye, AB, on May 3, 1933. Her parents, Katerina and Stefan, were immigrants from Slovakia who farmed just outside of St. Paul. Betty was the fourth of eight children. Some of her fondest childhood memories were of going to school in a one- room schoolhouse. Her loving husband Ron Salahor, whom she married in 1953, survives Betty. In their early years together, they lived in Lethbridge, Regina, Edmonton, and Dawson Creek, finally settling in southwest Calgary where they have lived for fifty years. Betty will be most remembered for her love of family, her hospitality, and her cooking, especially her pierogis, cheese moons and raspberry cheesecake.

She leaves behind her sons, Gordon of Calgary and Byron of Tsawwassen; her daughters-in-law Kelly Hewson and Deborah; grand-daughters, Rory of Calgary, Drewe  of Osaka, Genevieve, and Sabine; Rory’s husband Daren Sharpe; and great-granddaughter Harlow Sharpe. She is also survived by her brother Frank of Prince George, and her sister Violet of Edmonton. Betty was predeceased by her brothers, George, Steve, and John; and her sisters, Catherine of Prince George and Christine Malzenski of Bellevue.
