Obituary of Richard (Dick) EPTON

Richard Epton, beloved husband of Susan Epton (nee Kell) of Calgary, AB passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the age of 90 years.

Dick was born in Carmangay, AB on March 18, 1929, and subsequently moved to Calgary, AB with his family in 1940. He graduated from the University of Alberta (Calgary and Edmonton) as a mature student with two degrees: Bachelor of Science and Education. Dick then became a teacher, mentor, and hero to many young people. In subsequent years, Dick became the Director of Continuing Education at Viscount Bennett where he was also responsible for the Alternative High School and schools that supported disenfranchised youth. Dick married Susan in 1980. He was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and all outdoors. Dick will be remembered for his kindness, friendship, and easy willingness to help others. 

Besides his loving wife Susan, Dick is survived by sons, Allan of Vancouver, BC, and Chris (Kathy) of Knoxville, TN; step-children, Jane, and Jim Duncan of Calgary, AB; and his beloved granddaughter Elizabeth Diggon (Kevan Hayes) of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by brothers, Keith (Carol) of Stoney Plain, AB, and Tim (Carren) of High River, AB; sisters, Gail Hasse of High River, AB, and Elaine Hunchuk (Grant) of Parksville, BC; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Norah and Willis; and sisters, Dona and Violet.

A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held in the Spring.
