Obituary of Andrew “Andy” CHUNTA

January 23, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Andy Chunta, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the age of 85 years.

Andy was born in Hamilton, ON, on September 14, 1934. He graduated from Western Canada High School, and later went on to Oklahoma University, where he graduated with a degree in Geological Engineering.  After graduation, Andy worked for Pacific Petroleums Ltd., where he met his wife Roni.  After leaving Pacific in 1980, he worked for a series of junior oil and gas companies in Calgary until retiring in 1997. One of Andy’s most memorable experiences was in 1981, when he travelled to Germany with his wife Roni and toured much of the country. He often reflected on how much he enjoyed the trip, and liked to watch travel shows and hear about trips his friends enjoyed. Andy will be most remembered for the “enthusiastic" instructions he provided to various professional athletes and sports teams through the TV in his living room.

Andy is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kim Chunta of Langley, BC, and Craig and Diane Chunta of Calgary, AB; two grandchildren, Carl Chunta, and Alec Chunta, and brother Joe Chunta. Andy was predeceased by his spouse, Roni Chunta, parents Zuzana and Andrew Chunta, and brother John Chunta.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
