Niels MOLBAK

Obituary of Niels Otto MOLBAK

May 9, 1964 – Edmonton, Alberta
February 4, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Niels Otto Molbak, beloved son and brother of Niels Frederik, Marie and Anna Molbak, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the age of 55 years.

Niels was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on May 9, 1964. Shortly after Niels’s family moved to Calgary where he resided.

Niels grew up just outside of Calgary on an acreage where he attended high school in Cochrane, and graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor’s degree in Economics.

He had a successful career in the Financial sector, but his true passion was politics. He started his involvement with the United Conservative Party Organization as a PC youth supporter where he met several of his close friends and most recent colleagues.  He most recently started as the Constituency Assistant for Honorable Minister of Energy Sonya Savage (long-time friend) where he truly found his calling and was making a significant impact for Calgary Northwest.

Niels loved to play golf and volunteered with the Golf Channel at the Shaw Charity Classic which he looked forward to every year (from driving camera persons around, from shot-to-shot to spotting PGA golfer’s shots for broadcast purposes).

He was very proud of his Danish heritage and he took the time to draw the Danish flag on each of his golf balls. If you ever find a ball in woods (and there are a few!) with a Danish flag think of Niels as he might be smiling down at you.

Niels has many fond memories of visiting Denmark and getting to know his extended family of many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Niels also had a passion for wine where you could always count on him to bring the best pairing to any occasion.

Niels was a very caring, generous and loving son, brother and friend he has touched many hearts and will be remembered for years to come.

Niels is survived by his loving parents, Niels and Marie, and his caring sister Anna. Besides his loving family, Niels is survived by several extended family members in Calgary, and various towns throughout British Columbia, and Denmark.
