A Celebration of Helen’s Life

I got to know Helen since coming to Rockpointe Church. She always sat in the same spot in the same section during our Sunday worship services across from me. During the last few months of her life, she was struggling with some health issues that caused her feet to swell and she could not walk very well. I remember very well a conversation I had with her one Sunday as I was asking her about her health. She described it briefly but followed with " But I always thank God each morning as I get up, for life, for breath and for His goodness to me." It blew me away. I thought I was comforting her in her struggle with her health, instead she was giving me a lesson about always looking up to the Father who cares for her. I will miss seeing her at church but her reminder to always be thankful to the Father will always stay with me.
Aunt Helen was always dressed for the occasion, whether wearing her farm 'grubs' for plucking chickens or attending formal church functions or dressing for visiting relatives. And she always seemed to be prepared for visitors. She had an engaging personality. I will always remember the 'tag-team' babysitting she and Aunt Sue would have when Mom & Dad had to be somewhere without us kids tagging along. Her sense of humour will definitely be missed. Aunt Helen, you will be missed.
