Condolences
I remember sitting in TGI Fridays, in Yokohama with Kevin and some friends. He was a really great guy to be around. Chill and relaxed. As I recall he managed to get the server's phone number :). I was surprised. And, I think he was surprised too. I'm sorry I didn't learn of his passing sooner. I wish his family well. Best wishes.
Kevin was an cool older brother of, Chad, one of my earliest and best childhood friends. Some of my other friend's older brothers could be a bit mean or distant, but not Kevin - he was always kind, funny and usually interested enough and willing to share some of his time with us. I remember that Kevin would sometimes play with us, tell us stories, and even teach us new games or new ways to play games we already knew. Some of my fondest childhood memories took place at the Ayers house in Varsity Estates, where Kevin, Dieter, Chad and I would sometimes play Dungeons and Dragons, Apple IIe computer games (like Phantasy), and classics like hide-and-seek and a particular-type of tag that we would dress up as medieval characters and have pretend battles with other neighborhood kids. To this day, I still enjoy reading Dungeons and Dragons books and playing Phantasy -type computer games, and when I hear about or read something about Japan, I would always think of Kevin and my early childhood family friends. One day soon, perhaps this summer, now that my family has moved into a nice family friendly neighborhood, I will have the pleasure of teaching my own 8 year old daughter and some of her friends, the types of games and variations of these, that Kevin shared with me and Chad, while we were children, many years ago now. I am ever grateful and appreciative of Kevin and the Ayers for all of the many wonderful childhood memories and many carefree and simple summer days spent playing games in the park and around the house, with some of my best and earliest friends. To me, Kevin was, and will always will be, the 'coolest' of the 'cool' out of any of my friend's older brothers (Dieter, please don't feel left out, as you were a very close second!). Kevin, as I knew him as a child (and imagine he continued to be), was so full of life, enthusiasm and happiness. I'm so saddened to hear of his passing and so very sorry for your loss. Best wishes and regards, Matthew, Anna and Sophia Munson.
Kevin was not only a student at SAIT in the 90's, he was also an outstanding student athlete. He competed in Cross Country for SAIT, and was an important part of an ACAC Championship team in 1997-1998. He was an outstanding individual with a dry sense of humour, a quiet demeanor, but a great team member. I haven't seen Kevin since he left SAIT for an overseas adventure. May he be at peace, and enjoy the undulations of the running routes up high.
