Bonifacio (Boni) RODRIGUES

Obituary of Bonifacio (Boni) RODRIGUES

August 13, 1930 – Kampala, Uganda
February 28, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Bonifacio Rodrigues. He passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

Boni married Lorna in Mumbai, India in 1963. He immigrated to Canada in 1967, experiencing snow and sub-zero temperatures and leaving behind the Africa civil unrest. He found Calgary to be a wonderful place to live and work. His time at Gulf Oil Canada was very rewarding and allowed him to pursue interests like camping trips, watching his beloved Montreal Canadiens and hometown favorites, the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders. He took up cross country Skiing and square dancing.

Boni was very community minded. He enjoyed events of the CANOSCA association as well as the Goan Association of Calgary, of which members of his family helped to form. He was also very involved with parish life, becoming a Knight of Columbus brother and singing with the 5:00 Saturday evening choir.

Boni was an avid reader. He enjoyed his morning coffee and copy of the Calgary Herald. He was a subscriber for over fifty-three years. Boni had a long standing subscription to Readers Digest and Ellery Queen.

As age caught up with him, so was declining health. He passed away peacefully at the Rocky View Hospital. Much thanks to Dr. Siow and all the staff at unit 72- You Rock.

Boni is survived by his beloved wife Lorna of nearly fifty-seven years, his children, Beryl, Philip, Gregory (Janice), and Luke Rodrigues. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Espy, Rose, and Welda; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Boni  was predeceased by his parents, Leandro and Santana Maria Rodrigues and sister Clara. Also brothers, Alec and wife Carmen, nephew Elvis, Avelino (Espy), and nephew Hubert, Renato (Rose), Wilfrid and wife Louisa, and nephew Selwyn.  Brothers-in-law, Joseph Siqueira (Welda) and Jerry and wife Grace Rodricks. The Rodrigues band and team are now reunited.
