Obituary of Colin Wild

November 26, 1934 – Leigh Lancashire, United Kingdom
March 1, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Colin Wild of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the age of 85 years.

Colin Wild was born in Leigh, Lancashire England on November 26, 1934. He was educated at Leigh Grammar School, where he excelled at Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. He trained to be a metallurgical engineer at UMIST. He married the love of his life, Betty in August 1960, and they raised three children together. His career took him to various parts of England, Switzerland and Germany.  In 1977, Colin moved with his family to New Brunswick.  This was followed by relocations to Ontario and, finally, Alberta.

He loved the space to the east, and the mountains to the west.  He was a proud Albertan, and believed in an inclusive and progressive province.
Work was only one side of Colin. He gained expertise and enjoyment in a number of areas, including rose and vegetable gardening, squash, making soccer goal posts, golf, German, embarrassing his children and grandchildren at public events, and community volunteering. He volunteered as a soccer coach. Helped with the St. Bonaventure’s Seniors Group and was on his condo board. He also loved music; he played the piano with some skill and appreciated most types of music. His favourite song by far was Frank Sinatra’s version of “My Way”, and our Dad certainly did it his way.  That song sums him up – good and bad.  Overall, he lived his life with passion, adventure and curiosity.

Colin was predeceased by his wife Mary Elizabeth (Betty), and is survived by his children, Timothy, Gillian (Mike) and Jonathan (Jennifer); grandchildren, Ian, Benjamin, Alison and Mark.

Our Dad was a lovely man, with a great sense of humour, a taste for social justice and a spectacular work ethic.  We will miss him.
