Obituary of Rita Catherine BOITEAU (nee Rothel)

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Boiteau of Calgary, AB.  Rita passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 with family by her side.  

She was born in Fernie, BC, on October 9, 1942 to Robert and Margaret Rothel. The oldest of four girls, Rita grew up with her parents and sisters, Irene (Bunny), Colleen, and Coreen, in the Elk Valley and Fernie, BC. She came to Calgary to attend hairdressing school. It was here where she met and then married her husband, Roger Boiteau and together they raised their family. She always provided love and support for her three daughters, ending visits with a hug and phone calls with “I love you.” Rita went back to school when her children were young and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Calgary. She began her teaching career with the CBE and then spent most of her years with the Calgary Catholic School District, teaching English and Cosmetology at St. Mary’s High School, and retiring from St. Francis High School where she taught Cosmetology. 

Rita will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Roger; daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Andrew Maurette, Jacqueline and Tony Allen, Monique and David Gorling; Rita had nine grandchildren and was affectionately called “Noni.” She will be dearly missed by Brady (Leah), Coleson, Teagan, Madison, McKenna, Jacob, Tyler, Devon; her nieces; and her sister, Coreen Cupples.  She was predeceased by her grandson Noah, her parents, and sister Bunny.

At Rita’s request, the family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
