March 3, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Doug Palmer, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away in Calgary, AB on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the age of 91 years.

Doug was born on March 8, 1928 in Calgary, AB. He grew up in the
Mission area attending Rideau Jr. High School and Western Canada High School.

Doug’s love for the arts led him to study at the Provincial Institute of
Technology, later known as The Alberta College of Art and Design. Here he met the love of his life Margaret Ann “Margo” Latimer, they were married in 1955 and shortly after purchased a home in Haysboro where they raised four daughters, Karen, Terri, Shawn and Jodi.

Doug quickly became a sought-after Creative Artist with many local advertising agencies. As a professional painter, he worked in all mediums: oil, acrylic, watercolour and pastel to capture the personality of Alberta’s prairies, foothills and Rocky Mountains. Alberta’s western heritage is reflected in his many landscapes, fly fishing and rodeo paintings.

Doug loved the game of Golf! He was featured in Calgary Herald with “7 hole in ones” at Willow Park Golf and Country Club. He also enjoyed training and field trialing his English Setters.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Karen, Terri, Shawn, and Jodi, all of Calgary; grandchildren, Lindsey Dawn (Ted McGirr), Kelsey Palmer (Jason Glass), Whitney Jager, Sami Palmer-Forrest, Tyson Martin, Alex Forrest, Taylor Martin (Bradley Karl) and Danielle Duce; and  two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Stetson Karl.

Doug was predeceased by his wife Margo (March 10, 2014); his parents, George Henry Palmer and Grace Elizabeth (nee Baragar), and his brothers Franklin Palmer of Calgary and Morley Palmer of Oregon, USA.

Sincere thanks to Dr. T. Bouchard and all the caring staff at Southwood Hospice.
