Obituary of Gertrude DUNLOP (nee Chebree)

August 10, 1938 – Vegreville, Alberta
March 5, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Our hero, Trudy Dunlop slipped away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 5:45pm, with her loving family by her side. Trudy is no longer with us on earth but her indomitable spirit and unwavering love will live within us. Our precious matriarch and best friend will always be with us.

Trudy was born in Vegreville, AB and grew up in Edmonton with her loving family. She met Don in 1957 when they were coworkers at Woodwards. Working together would foreshadow their long and successful partnership in life. They married in 1960. Their union produced three daughters, Lynn, Kim, and Shelley. Their union also produced a beautiful home, successful business and a wonderful life filled with friends, travel, and moments more valuable than any amount of money or fortune.

Trudy graduated Nursing in 1960 and was a proud member of the nursing sisterhood for sixty years. For many years, she stayed home with her children. She was an exceptional cook, talented seamstress, gifted photographer and she was a devoted homemaker who built a wonderful home and life which we are all eternally grateful for. Eventually, she went back to work to help Don build his business and ran his office for many years. She successfully managed a small office staff while building life-long friendships that endured throughout the years.

Trudy loved cooking, shopping, photography, reading, movies, and her family. She had a sincere curiosity and interest in others and could have meaningful conversations wherever she went. Trudy was a truly grounded, and authentic human being.

Trudy was a loving mom. She was gentle, kind, and supportive. She was an amazing listener. She was not only a mom to her daughters, she was their best friend and confidante whose support never wavered.

Trudy was the best grandma. She was patient and compassionate, creative, and gentle. She always saw the strength in her loved ones. She built relationships with each of her granddaughters and she truly appreciated and cherished the unique qualities that set them apart. She was their grandmother and their friend and she will be a part of everything they do in life.

Trudy was blessed with a great-grandson, Nathaniel, in September 2017. Despite her health issues, she rallied to be here to meet him and leave her heart print on him. He brought joy and hope to her last years.

Trudy is survived by her husband Don; her daughters, Lynn (Doug), Kim (Brent), Shelley (Paul); her granddaughters, Sammy, Maddie (Logan), Alex (Jesse) and Gaby; and great-grandson Nathaniel.

She was predeceased by her brother George, parents Sandra and Michael and her sister Mary who she loved so deeply.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Gertrude’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
