Obituary of Barbara SAWCHUK (nee Sloboda)

It is with the greatest sorrow that the family of Barbara Sawchuk announce her passing at the Calgary South Health Campus on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the age of 87 years.

Barbara was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors as much as she loved baking in the kitchen, but she especially loved the drive out to Sundre where she could spend time on the farm and visit with her late brother Joe and her brother Bill. She will always be remembered as a good, decent, and fair person in every way and as a very good friend to all who were fortunate to know her.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Harry and the late Caroline Sloboda, loving mother of Ken Sawchuk, Earl Sawchuk, and Elaine Sawchuk; and beloved grandmother of Allyson Sawchuk. She was a dear sister to Annie (late Peter), Bill, Jean (late Roy), and Josephine (late Owen). She was predeceased by her siblings, Emma, Helen, Joe, John, Madeline, Mary, Mike and Rose.

“I shall have heaven and earth for my coffin. The sun and moon will be jade symbols hanging by my side. Planets and constellations will shine as jewels all around me and all beings will be present as mourners at the wake. What more is needed? Everything is amply taken care of.”
