Rachel CAMERON

Obituary of Rachel Ann CAMERON

May 19, 1950 - March 9, 2020

Rachel died suddenly in Palm Springs leaving her family and friends to mourn the passing of a remarkable person who left us far too soon.

Glamorous and talented, she stood out from the crowd with a beauty that shone from within. She had an infallible eye for detail, a sophisticated sense of fashion, a unique personal style and a refined elegance that permeated everything she did. She was extremely well read and had many varied interests. She was an avid gardener, a skilled and prolific knitter, a gourmet cook and a superb hostess. Rachel excelled at designing and furnishing beautiful homes, not only directing the creative processes but also supervising the construction. She was a fearless problem solver who celebrated and understood the complexities of building these projects. She shared her gifts with others teaching clothing design at Form + Function and serving as a director of the Alberta College of Art for many years. Her creativity inspired her children and others to pursue artistic careers including as producers of TV and video content and as professional chefs. Rachel enthusiastically supported husband Glenn's career. After Glenn and others opened Stikeman Elliott Calgary in 1992, Rachel devoted herself to the success of that office. In the process she became close to many members of the firm across the country and a cherished member of the broader Stikeman family.

She loved a celebration and would dance the night away, but equally enjoyed sharing quiet moments over dinner and cocktails followed by a favoured British drama. It was however the people in her life that mattered most to Rachel. Her many friends were an interesting, eclectic group. She loved them all, particularly the book clubbers. And she especially loved her extraordinary family. Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her three grandsons.

Rachel's father Jack, predeceased her. She is survived by her adoring husband of forty-nine years, Glenn; their children, John (Tina, Jack, Harrison and Hunter) and Claire; her mother, Frances Albinati and step-dad Albert Albinati; her siblings, Leah (Dave, Sevanne, Bevan, Ben, Jodi, Mike and Tim), Sydney (Louis, Hilary and Hollis) and Andre (Corianne and Angus). She is also survived by her brother in-law Garry (Barb), sister-in-law Dorothy-Ellen (Ken) and the many wonderful children in their families.

A Celebration of Rachel’s Life will be held at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (850 4 St SE, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.
