Obituary of Sidney Alfred SEARS

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sidney Alfred Sears on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at the age of 91 years.

Sid leaves to mourn his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Millie, five children, Sandra (John), Linda (Murray), Karen, Ted (Linda), Susan (Jamie); eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gord (Lenore), Brian (Karen) and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Mary, brother Lionel, and son-in-law Tim.

Dad had a full and active life.  Living in all four western provinces, he established many long lasting friendships and acquaintances throughout the years and miles.  His sales career in Saskatoon, SK, began with Federated Co-op, selling McLarens Pickles, then onto Christie’s Biscuits.  As difficult as it was to leave Saskatoon, he moved the entire family to Winnipeg, MB, for a promotion to District Sales Manager working for Kimberly Clark.  While residing in Winnipeg they established a great group of friends that they held dear for many years, enjoying many curling events, card games, and socializing.  The next move and promotion was to Vancouver, BC, where Dad eventually ended his career as Divisional Sales Manager with Kimberly Clark.  Semi-retired, he became secretary treasurer with the BC Curling Association for a number of years.  This position led him and Millie on many adventures and memorable times attending numerous Briers across Canada.  Recreational curling, golfing, bridge games, and dinner parties with another great group of friends, brought much enjoyment to his life.  Their travels took them around the World including destinations such as Bermuda, Martha’s Vineyard, Hawaii, California, Arizona, a couple of cruises, and the UK.

As a young man Dad was approached to play hockey in Melfort, SK, and was always proud of the fact he played with Gordie Howe back before Gordie became Mr. Hockey. Sports were a big part of Dad’s life, not only hockey, he was also an avid Saskatchewan Roughriders fan; football or golf was often playing on his television.

He had a quick wit and was a very proud Dad and Grandpa who will be sadly missed.

A private Family Service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army, 1731 29th Street SW Calgary, AB, T3C 1M6, on line at www.salvationarmy.ca, or by phone 403-410-1112.
