Obituary of Elaine Ruth FOX

Elaine Ruth Fox of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at the age of 86 years.

Elaine was born and raised in Calgary. Her first job was at the Canadian Pacific telegraph office and she later graduated from the Henderson School of Commerce. Elaine did administrative work for the University of Calgary Electrical Engineering Department, an accounting firm, and a bank before retiring.

Elaine was an avid hiker, active until age 75. Being in the mountains at Banff and Lake Louise brought her joy. She was a member of the Skyline Hikers and helped to form the Calgary Weekend Hikers. An adventurer at heart, Elaine hiked the Grand Canyon twice and was helicoptered into the back country for multi day hikes. She could remember and describe any trail she travelled.

Elaine also loved to sing. She sang as a second soprano with the Confederation Park Seniors Choir, and in St. David’s Church Choir. She had a lot of fun doing musical theatre with the Silver Stars Revue.

Elaine was a sweet, kind, gentle soul and will be remembered for her active mind and knowledge of local history. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and enjoyed meeting friends at Tim Horton’s where she delighted in drinking steeped tea.

She will be deeply missed by many friends, some of whom she has known since school days and especially her dear friend Lydia.

Elaine is survived by her sister-in-law Betty Fox, brother-in-law Robert Lee; and her nephews and nieces Richard, Michael, Jane, Carolyn, Diane and Debra and their families.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents Peter and Vera; her twin sister Eleanor Lee, and her brother Richard.
