Obituary of Bev KITCHEN
December 30, 1923 – Calgary, Alberta
April 6, 2020 – Airdrie, Alberta
Thomas “Bev” Kitchen beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the age of 96 years, joining his wife, Joan of 72 years, after being parted for 83 days.
Bev was born in Calgary to Ted and Dolly Kitchen. He took his schooling in Calgary. Bev was a great athlete, playing all sports, his favorite being hockey and baseball. At age 17 he joined the RCN serving most of his time on the corvette, HMCS Camrose.
Bev married Joan Fairweather; they lived in Calgary until 1959. In the early years Bev worked for the Imperial Oil before becoming a Real Estate Agent in the mid 50’s, a career he loved. Due to the times they moved to Coleville, SK to work for General American Oil for nine years. He and Joan and three sons returned to Calgary in 1968, resuming his career in real estate until retirement. In 2002, he and Joan moved to a house in Airdrie, AB and in later years they lived at the Airdrie Bethany Care Center.
Over the years Bev was involved in sports with his children, was a Mason and involved in the Royal Canadian Legion. Watching and following sports were definitely his main interests. Camping was a great love of Bev’s; he especially loved the mountains.
Bev was devoted to his family, the bigger it grew the more he loved it. Bev loved his dogs, the last one being Muffy, who now lives with his son. Up until January 12, 2020, Dad could be found sitting quietly holding hands with Mum. This is a picture everyone involved in their lives will remember and smile.
Bev is survived by his daughter BettyLou (Rich) Schultz of Brightsand LK, SK; his sons, Don of Calgary, Lee (Liza) of Airdrie, and Tom (Diana) of Drayton Valley; his brother Mac of Washougal, WA; his sisters-in-law, Donna (Bill) Bullied and Lynne (Art Trace) Kuehn; his grandkids, Jody (Garth) Mayer, Lezlie (Corey) Maduke, Aaron (Alayna) Schultz, Chris Rivollier, Bailey Kitchen, Andrea (friend Cody) Rivollier, and Jayna (Haxton) VanEmber.
