Obituary of Elizabeth (Betty) Annie HOLLANDS
January 12, 1937 – April 21, 2020
Betty Hollands passed away on Tuesday, April, 21, 2020 at the age of 83 years.
Mom was raised in Sylvan Lake, AB, the youngest of Donald and Isabella’s four children. Mom told us many stories of her school days and her jobs at Turners Groceries, the post office and The Boathouse Concession Stand on the lake. She married Jim Hollands in 1958 and they moved to Calgary in 1966 with their two young daughters. She began working for The Hudson’s Bay Co. in 1970, when she became a single parent and retired there in 2001.
Mom was very crafty and over the years knit, crocheted and sewed many blankets, quilts and slippers which she shared with all of us. Mom always loved the outdoors and took much pleasure in tending to her beautiful flower garden where she spent much of her time after retiring. She spoiled all of us with her delicious home-made pies, tarts and cookies. She also spoiled and loved her cats almost as much as all of her family.
Betty is survived by daughters, Terry Lindstrom and Sandra Hollands; son-in-law John Lindstrom; grandsons, Stephen and Keifer Lindstrom; brother Charlie Bain; nephews, Tim, Jim and Kevin Bain; nieces’ Marilyn Alkenbrack, Cheryl Bain, Beverley Bodeux and their families. She is also survived by extended families The Casey’s, The Watt’s, The Carmichaels and The Whitesides.
Betty was predeceased by brother Donald Bain, sister Helen Keisser; sisters-in-law, Marian Bain and Hazel Bain; nephew Bill Keisser, great-niece Melissa Metzgar, and her infant son in 1962.
Everyone who called her Betty, Mom, Nana and Auntie will hold special memories in their hearts. She is greatly loved and will be greatly missed by us all.
