Obituary of Phyllis Mary MARKS (nee Franke)

August 29, 1925 – Scott, Saskatchewan

April 24, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Phyllis Marks, our much-loved Mum, died peacefully on Friday evening after a day of holding hands with her children. She was a kind and gracious soul, who had a smile and warm words for everyone she encountered.

Phyllis was born and raised on a farm near Leipzig, SK and attended school at the Notre Dame Convent. She understood the value of honest hard work and was truly thankful for the life she had.  She set an example for us all to be content and appreciate the little things.

Phyllis was a hard-core sports fan (Go Riders!), an avid bridge player, and a voracious reader. She cultivated a lifetime of friendships through her sorority, bridge club, church and neighbourhood. Mum was very sharp and had a successful career as a bookkeeper. We always joked that even though dad had the business degree, it was mum who managed the finances. Despite her small stature, she had enormous strength.

Most of all, Phyllis was a devoted wife and proud mother to her children Brenda (Jeff Johnston) and David (Nancy Dilts) and doting grandma to Kelsey, Lauren and Hunter. Phyllis walked through life side by side with George, her beloved husband of fifty years, who passed away in 2009. She loved his gentle, kind heart and his impish ways. They were a beautiful match.

Phyllis was the third of five children, and was predeceased by her brothers, Ernie, Ivan, and Jerry; and sister Eileen. She treasured her siblings and remained close to them and their families over the years.

She will forever be in our hearts.

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Phyllis’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Staywell Manor where Phyllis spent her last eight years. We are grateful for their care, compassion and dedication.
