Obituary of Susan RUTHERFORD
September 24, 1960 – Oliver, British Columbia
April 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Susan Marie Rutherford on April 25, 2020 in Calgary.
In Sue’s words: “I have moved onto another life adventure. I am thrilled to be going to a place where I can freely indulge in my vices of eating whatever I feel like, drinking as much red wine as I like (with no repercussions), & savoring a cigarette. Now I am free from the Ovarian Cancer restrictions that have annoyed me for the past 10 years. My travelling buddies, Lester & Tymchuk (my sweet kitties), are accompanying me on this adventure. I am devastated to be leaving my soulmate & the true love of my life, Rodney. He will no longer be nagged by the “honey do” list but I have left him a mess of my stuff to sort through – have fun with that Roddy. I am very sad to be leaving my sister, Cindy (Jimmy) Liebel and my mother, Daphne Sherbinin. My Rutherford family – Joan Hill, Ken (Gloria) Rutherford, Doug (Kim) Rutherford. Also I am sad to be leaving a sh_tload of nieces & nephews, plus another generation of great-nieces & nephews, my dear friends & relatives. You all know who you are & how much I love you & will miss you.
I have many family & friends, that have passed, whom I will meet & cheer me on my new adventure.
I am touched by the care that I have received at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre – the attentive care from the Daycare Staff & the Gyne team.”
Sue was a kind generous person with a warm heart. Sue was raised in Midway, BC. She was raised within a close family and all of her friends became family members. Sue enjoyed having family and friends for dinners and always showed up at the homes of others with a green box full of salads, appetizers, desserts and wine. Sue will be missed for her hugs, her smile, her big laugh and her warm generous heart. Our hearts are breaking with her loss.
At COVID-19’s request, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date when we can share stories of how Sue touched our lives.
At Sue’s request, in lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire a donation can be made in memory of Sue to the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank, https://www.cochraneactivettes.com/cochrane-food-bank/, or to Ovarian Cancer Canada, https://ovariancanada.org/Get-Involved/Donate/In-Memoriam-In-Honour. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Sue’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
