Obituary of Betty Louise MITCHELL

April 15, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Betty Mitchell (nee Kerslake), beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of Calgary, AB passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at the age of 93 years.

 

Betty was born in Calgary, AB and attended school in Calgary, graduating from Western Canada High School in 1945.  She was a cheer leader in High School and an avid supporter of the school’s athletic teams as well as a true Calgary cowgirl often found riding her horse Barney at her father’s ranch. After High School she worked as a bank teller at the Royal Bank of Canada, and then as an Administrative Assistant in an oil and gas company.

 

Betty married her true love Andrew (Drew) Mitchell on April 27, 1951.

 

Betty was a member of the Eastern Star for many years where she enjoyed the many friendships she made and became the Matron of the Eastern Star. 

 

Betty accomplished much in her life and was proud of her family and friends.  Her friends were like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, a treasure box, her treasure box of friends.  Betty valued her friendships immensely and once you were a friend you were family. 

 

Betty will be most remembered for her love of life, her never failing positive attitude and the care, love and concern she had for all her family and friends.

 

Betty loved travelling with her husband, and they traveled together extensively. One of their most memorable vacations was when they visited Chile to see their son.

 

Betty is survived by her son Rob (Carmen Gloria) Mitchell, granddaughter Constanza and great-grandchildren, Filipe and Josefa in Chile; her daughter Kathy Mitchell and her grandson David Mitchell (Brianne) of Calgary, AB.

 

Betty is also survived by her husband’s younger brother Larry (Dixie) Mitchell of Anacortes, Washington, USA as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Betty was predeceased by her husband (Andrew Mitchell), her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law.
