Condolences
I am sorry this is coming so late but as I live in the US I just found this out. My name is Susan Dunn and my grandparents were his neighbors in Sunnyside. The Roberts', Ieuan and Winnifred, were life-long friends. Their families built their homes together and John and my mother Gwyneth Roberts were friends growing up. I used to see him every year as a child when i would come, from the US, to visit my grandparents. He was so full of fun, energy, and most of all kindness. I was so sad to hear of his passing. In the late years of Ieuan and Winnies' life and when they passed away John was so helpful to them and my mother. We always had considered him part of our family. I am so sorry for your loss.
So sad, John and I go a long way back. I remember all us kids in Sunnyside, we were around 10 yrs old would play football in a green space not far from his house. John and I were close for many years growing up and in the past years my wife and I would drop by for short visits. Our min schnauzers enjoyed their time together. Our love and prayers to all of John’s family. Garth and Patti Marrale
There are two memories that our family would like to share: first was John’s raspberry jam which he always brought to our home for thanksgiving and Christmas. His favorite dinner consisted of turkey and more turkey. His reward for carving consisted of the carcass from which he made a delicious soup, some of which he shared. He always blamed me for introducing him to the game of golf which provided him with the joy and frustration that all true golfers suffered. From Mayfair to Bragg Creek to Phoenix to Discovery Ridge John fixed everything that was broken or bent. Our family will miss him.

I worked with John for many years at Calgary Fire and had a good friendship. One day John and I went building inspecting many years ago to Alberta Piano and John bought his first player piano that day which he restored and the rest is history.
Condolences to all the family.

John truly lived up to the last name Doherty from the green isle. He had the heart, kindness and loyalty of a true Irish man and he will be dearly missed.
John was a great guy. I worked with John on the Calgary Fire Department for many years. He was a very handy individual who could fix or repair almost anything. We enjoyed many days on the ski slope and on the golf course: John loved to BS over a cup of coffee. Farewell old friend.

Hi Lyla & Moreen - so sorry to hear the news about John. I have a lot of good memories of him from my younger years, he helped me fix a bike and in later years my truck. I know the first time Don drove a car it was with John. For some reason I remember well a family dinners at your parent's place going way back. When we can travel again I will make sure I arrange for a visit the next time I'm in Calgary.
