Obituary of Dorothy Marie DAVIS (nee Niven)

February 27, 1932 – North Battleford, Saskatchewan

May 5, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Dorothy Davis (nee Niven) on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Dot was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, to George and Marie Niven, on February 27, 1932. Dot worked at Foothills Hospital on Unit 62 as a unit clerk for 20 years. Following her retirement, Dot volunteered at Rosedale Hospice. She always found time to canvass for many causes over the years, but the Heart & Stroke Foundation was particularly important as she, herself, underwent open heart surgery. Dot was a social butterfly and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She spent the early years 10 pin bowling and won many trophies. Weekends were spent camping in the mountains with the family of six in a tiny Travelaire trailer. Dot was an active member of the Parkdale Community Association and had many life-long friends in the community. She loved to attend community functions and play cards. Her feisty spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 

She is survived by four children, Laurie (†Ken) Huntley, Scott (Phyllis) Davis, Randy Davis, Linda (Darian) Wentland; and four grandchildren, Kaitlin, Samantha, Lindsay, and Brian. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Frederick Murray (Bud) Davis and son-in-law Kenneth Huntley.

A special thank you to all the staff on Unit 47 at the Rockyview Hospital.  Your care for her during this difficult time was deeply appreciated.
