Obituary of Diane Leann WESSELY
July 4, 1946 – Regina, Saskatchewan
May 9, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
Diane Leann Wessely (nee Simmons) passed away peacefully, one day before Mother’s Day, on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 73 years of age.
Diane was born in Regina, SK on July 4, 1946. She and Wes were married on May 14, 1966 and the two moved to Calgary in March of 1967 to start a family. Diane always loved being a caregiver often caring for the neighbors’ children while she was home with her own. When time allowed, she worked in daycare and then homecare. Once her children were off to school, she went to work for Dresser-Rand until her retirement in July 2012. Diane enjoyed spending summers with her family and close friends on their property near Sylvan Lake. Nothing was more important to her than her three children and her six grandchildren. She was happiest when she was surrounded by them.
She is survived by her high school sweetheart of fifty-four years, Horst (Wes) Wessely; her loving children, Darren (Nancy), Raelene (Shane) and Cliff (Franziska); along with the six lights of her life, her beautiful grandchildren, Aidan, Elliott, Rylin, Maya, Sam and Luis. She is also survived by her brother Barry, her sister Terry and her faithful dog Fritz, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
We can take comfort knowing she has been reunited with her eldest daughter Rona Lee, and her parents Cliff and Adeline. We know she is somewhere beautiful now, surrounded by lilacs, breathing in the fresh air with the sun shining down on her face. She will be forever loved and missed dearly!
A Celebration of Diane’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek Hospitality Centre, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.
