Jeff’s love for his children was evident and I wanted to share the photos of him with our children when they were younger. Jeff also was close to my sister Donna’s son Cody who died in 1988 at 6 years old. I remember Cody talking to us on the phone and saying “Uncle Jeffy, I am going to the hospital to get my broken heart fixed.”
Although Jeff and I split up in 1998 we still remained connected in regards to our children Amber & Brandon. Amber got married in Joey’s and my backyard in 2015 and the special moment was Jeff being there to walk Amber down the path with Joey. We still laugh at the tears they both shared and Joey handing Jeff a tissue.
In 2016, we got to become grandparents to Lochlan. I was on the phone and texting with Jeff at the hospital when Amber had to end up getting an emergency C-section. This was at 3 in the morning and we were crying on the phone relieved that everything was okay and Lochlan was safely born. I sent him photos as soon as I saw Lochlan so he could see his grandson too.
Christmas of 2016, Jeff flew to Calgary from Kelowna, so that he could be here to celebrate Lochlan’s first Christmas. He was in my home and had dinner with us and I am thankful too that Joey always made Jeff feel welcome even though he was my ex.
Amber had to get her appendix out and once again we were on the phone whilst she was in surgery praying she would be okay. Then Lochlan ended up months later in ICU and once again we were on the phone crying and praying all would be okay.
I still have all of the texts we sent and photos of which I have shared one on Jeff’s comments on how we came back together as friends.
I am glad that Jeff was able to be back in Calgary for the last 2 years of his life. He was able to spend time with Lochlan and we once again had dinners together. If was funny having my current husband and ex husband at the table but we always embraced the importance of our children and sharing the moment together.
Jeff’s health did deteriorate significantly over the past 2 years and final photo is one of him and Lochlan that I took at Amber’s. Jeff was asleep in the chair and Lochlan was just happy to sit on his Grandpa’s lap.
In our last moment of seeing Jeff this week, which was hard on us, we did see peace in his face. I am sure his Mom Peggy, his daughter Angie and his nephew Cody all are with him right now. I will miss him and glad that I was able to share a portion of my life with him and to have our beautiful children and grandson to continue sharing memories with.
