Obituary of Ronald Roy STANNERS

May 29, 1946 – Gladstone, Manitoba
May 10, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Ronald Roy Stanners, beloved husband of Catherine Victoria Stanners of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at the age of 73 years.

Ron Stanners was born in Gladstone, Manitoba, on May 29, 1946, the fourth of four children of Henry and Gladys Stanners. Ron served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1965 to 1970. Ron and Cathy married on October 12, 1968 and had three children, a daughter named Hope and twin boys Garrett and Scott. Ron and Cathy owned and operated two restaurants in Virden and Brandon, Manitoba prior to moving to Alberta. Ron started his real estate career in 1980 and brokered offices at Royal LePage, PJ Toole & Cote, and Sutton Group before launching MaxWell Realty with business partner and best friend Dick Oakes. Ron’s personal philosophy was that his word and handshake were as important as his signature. He would treat people well, support his realtors with service and problem solving. Ron was recognized as Realtor of Year and served as President of the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB). Ron supported the pursuit of excellence in real estate and volunteered extensively in the community. Ron was awarded Honorary Life Member of CREB. Ron was an accredited mediator and was admired for his professionalism and mentorship. Ron will be most remembered for his quick wit, joke-telling and card tricks. Ron’s goal was to make five people smile every day. Ron’s spontaneous sense of humour was contagious and he was a master of making everyone feel welcome and accepted. Ron loved his family above all else and enjoyed quality time playing cards and games with family and friends. Ron coached his sons’ hockey and lacrosse teams and served as President of the Parents’ Association at Calgary Academy. Ron believed in giving back and was a champion at helping people achieve their highest potential. Ron’s passions included enjoying nature on the family property, tending his garden and greenhouse, making friends with wild animals and birds, woodworking, golfing, and entertaining in their home. Ron cherished the family roadtrips to explore Canada, Disneyland, Route 66, numerous golf adventures, and Australia, New Zealand, US, Mexico, Greece, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Gladys Stanners, and sister Ivy. Ron is survived by his wife Cathy and children Hope, Scott, and Garrett (Sarah); and grandchildren, Ella, Grace and Scarlett; sister Josanne, brother Laurance (Barb), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives in Canada, the United States, England, and many friends.
