Obituary of Joyce Leola MCCALLUM (nee Powter)

October 14, 1927 – Regina, Saskatchewan
May 14, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts we announce that Joyce Leola McCallum passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 14 2020 at the age of 92 years.

Joyce was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Mildred and John Powter.  Joyce lived a full life and was always up for an adventure – whether travelling or camping with the kids. She loved nature and tended many gardens, and enjoyed relaxing with a good book. Joyce was caring and compassionate and spent many hours volunteering for groups like the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Prince George Hospital Auxiliary, Bethany Care Centre, Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and Girl Guides/Brownies. Joyce volunteered even until her last month, and was still knitting Izzy Dolls for the UN Peacekeepers.

Joyce is survived by her four children, Nancy Medic (George), Barry McCallum (Ann), Judy McCallum,  and Lenora Heintz (Terry); seven grandchildren, Mark Medic, Dan Medic, Duncan McCallum (Jael), Bryan McCallum (Tenille Biesbroek), Pamela McCallum (Patrick Leahy), Kim Thorvaldson (Braden) and Jessica Heintz (Kassidy Visser), as well as her sister Gwen Allen and her family.

Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty-two years Richard George McCallum.

A Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held when family can gather together. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Joyce’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family would like to send their thanks to Dr. Barb Smith for her care and compassion.
