Obituary of Lillian Mildred COEN

July 21, 1919 – May 12, 2020 

Lillian Mildred Coen (neeTorgerson) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 100 years of age.

She was born July 21, 1919, to Patrina and Sven Torgerson in Piapot, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Siegfried Coen, on April 6, 2011. She was also predeceased by her parents, Sven and Patrina Torgerson, her brothers Gilbert (Herta), Sidney, Percy (Myrtle, Frances) and her sisters Myrtle (Charlie Spencer), Frances (Donald Leitch) Joan Hamilton, her sister-in-law Edna Torgerson, her son-in-law Garry Hruska and Dad’s special cousins Inga, and Ken and June Tvedt.

Mom and Dad were married in Lanigan, Saskatchewan, on July 23, 1941.  They built their lives together in this community and worked side-by-side In Lanigan Drugs for 40 years until they retired in 1979.  

Throughout her life, Lillian was dedicated to making a positive impact. She was very active in the United Church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and was a very active member of the United Church Women.  She volunteered in home and school; was active in Brownies, Guides, and Scouts; helped with the Lanigan-Guernsey-Jansen Band; was a very active member of the local chapter of Eastern Star; was a member of the Grand Chapter of the OES; was very active in the Lanigan Hospital Auxiliary; was active in the Merry Mixers; and canvassed for many charities and organizations.  She enjoyed helping others and was most proud of being named Senior Citizen of Lanigan in 1997.

The memories and life of Lillian will continue to be celebrated by her son Garth (Irene) and daughter Gail; grandchildren Kendra, Amanda (John), Spencer, Andrea (Stephane), and Pam (David): great-grandchildren Kayla, Dylan, Brian, Erika, Lucie, Vivian, and Kai; and numerous special nieces and nephews. 

Cremation has taken place at McInnis & Holloway in Calgary.  A service and burial will follow in Lanigan, Saskatchewan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lanigan Hospital Auxiliary  c/o Lanigan Integrated Hospital, P.O. Box 609, Lanigan, SK  S0K 2M0
