Obituary of Gail Marie STEELE (nee Kennedy)

September 17, 1938 - Toronto, Ontario

May 18, 2020 - Canmore, Alberta

Gail Marie Steele, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2020 at the age of 81.

Gail was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario where she met and married the love of her life Robert (Bob) Steele in 1960. After the birth of their three children, they headed south to Jacksonville, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia. In 1976, Gail and Bob moved to Calgary, Alberta where they truly felt at home after meeting so many friends along the way. Gail always stayed in touch and relived those precious memories each time she picked up the phone or wrote a letter. Gail also had a working career in downtown Calgary at the Calgary Public Board of Education. She transitioned to Henry Wise Wood High School, as a librarian assistant, and then to Canyon Meadow Elementary, where she retired. Gail truly had a passion for people. Over the years, Gail and Bob were active members of the Center for Newcomers, tennis club, bridge club, gourmet club, bowling league, and the Gyros club. Gail just loved to be outdoors skiing, camping, hiking, and golfing, taking every opportunity to be with friends and enjoying a good laugh along the way. Gail loved and cared for her family deeply. For many years, Sunday dinners were the big event prepared for her most special guests – her family. Every meal finished with a wonderful large piece of homemade dessert from a new recipe. Such love poured into her baking. After suffering a stroke in 2018 she moved to beautiful Canmore, Alberta.

Gail is lovingly remembered by brother Glen Kennedy (Betty); son Craig (Maria); son Mark; daughter Suzanne (Vijay); grandchildren, Josh, Eric, Jadon and Adrianna; Maria’s daughters, Melissa and Melanie; and many more wonderful friends.
