Obituary of Noelia Luisa HERRERA (nee Mendoza)

Puerto Varas, Chile

May 31, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Noelia Herrera of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

Noelia was born in Puerto Varas, Chile. She graduated with a degree in teaching in Valdivia. After the Coup d’état in Chile, she saw herself forced to start a new life with her family in Calgary in 1976. She worked as a teacher’s assistant at the Calgary Catholic School Board and proudly taught Spanish at Mount Royal University. Noelia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, AnaSofia, as well as Harving Reynaldo, her family and friends. She held her family in Chile close to her heart and looked forward to the family reunions she would attend on her visits. She will be most remembered for her bigger-than-life smile, uplifting energy, her loving heart and relentless volunteer work and community activism.

Noelia is survived by her husband, Emilio Herrera, son Mauricio San Martin (Caralene), and her daughters Paula Herrera (Harving Mendoza) and Valeria Herrera.

The viewing will be held at McINNIS & Holloway (Chapel of the bells, 2720 Center Street North, Calgary, AB) for anyone that would like to pay their respects on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. With the restrictions in place associated with Covid-19, we ask that you are considerate and follow social distancing measures.
