June 1, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Alfred Baum, beloved husband of Rosemarie Baum (nee Scriba) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

Alf was born in Rush Lake, SK on July 17, 1930. In 1940 his family moved to northern Alberta, and in 1953 Alf moved again to Grande Prairie where he met and married Rosemarie in 1954.

Over the years Alf accomplished many things; he earned certificates in motor mechanics and welding, he was also a proficient carpenter and self-taught auto body expert. His knowledge, experience, and skills served him well over the years. His kids called him “Mr. Fix It”.

Alf enjoyed fishing, camping, skiing, ski patrolling, playing card games, singing in the church choir and the German Canadian Club choir, playing the accordion and harmonica; as well as the clarinet in the MaPa Band. He also loved to travel and visited many places including Europe, New Zealand, the Maritimes, Alaska, California, Arizona and the Caribbean.

Alf and Rosemarie moved from Grande Prairie to Prince of Peace Village in Calgary in 2000. He enjoyed many years of retirement travelling, riding his bike, curling, playing pool, and game nights with their friends and spending time with his children and their families. Alf will be most remembered for being a kind man, and his willingness to always help others.

He leaves to mourn his wife Rosemarie, daughters Pat Beattie, Lois Rowsell, Janice (Welden) Wilson and Corinne (Bob) Golding, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren all of whom enriched his life and will miss him dearly. He also leaves to mourn his brother, Arnold (Louise) of Grande Prairie, AB. Alf was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Alfred’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
