Obituary of William Paul GARDNER

August 29, 1935 – Calgary, Alberta
June 3, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

In the early morning hours of June 3, William Paul Gardner was ushered into the arms of his Heavenly Father.  Following a brief illness, our devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully.

Born in Calgary on August 29, 1935, William was a respected business man, and for over sixty years his career was as a manufacturer’s agent in the textile industry. He enjoyed his work very much, making many warm connections and valued relationships with his many clients across Western Canada.  He found joy in people, and his likeable and outgoing personality endeared him to many.
As a man of deep faith, William served over long years in many capacities of leadership in his church homes, and the board of the European Christian Mission. His wisdom and common sense, strong spiritual and deep personal convictions served him well in these capacities.

William dearly loved his family and showed us the joy and love of family. His most treasured time was spent initially with his children, then grandchildren, and he truly was a remarkable Dad and Grandpa.  His ability to bring a sense of fun to any experience will be long remembered.  He personally sacrificed in many ways to enable his children to experience a wonderful life. His generosity was extraordinary, perhaps only surpassed by his graciousness. He was blessed with a special wit and sense of humour that brought joy to all around him.

Husband to Elizabeth Cressman; father to Dianne (Rod Pauls), Jennifer (Lorne Pearson), and William (Connie Gardner); as well as Elizabeth’s sons, Matthew Gerber and Jonathan Gerber (Jamie Cheng) ; grandfather to,  Jennifer (Nathan Eklund), AJ (Kari Pauls), Matthew (Adrienne Pearson),  Zachary (Menoukia Pearson), William (Maria Gardner), Philip Gardner (Jacquelyn Spackman), Mitchel (Robyn Rennie), and  Michael (Shannon Rennie);  step-grandfather to Elizabeth’s grandsons,  Joshua and Scott; and twelve great-grandchildren.

William Paul Gardner was the eldest of five children of Paul and Katherine Gardner.

“He was, what words are wanting to say what-but think of all a man should be, and he was all of that”

A Private Family Service and interment will be held. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on William’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

William Gardner’s family express their sincere thanks to his physicians, Dr Cody and Dr Agnihotri, to the Palliative Care Home Care Team, and the staff at Agape Hospice.
