Condolences
I was sad to hear that Fred had passed. I'll always remember him bustling around the bakery at 4:30 in the morning. No one had to say much. It was like watching the cogs in a timepiece; clicking away in perfect unison. It was a great experience working there, usually with Harry, on the days that some help was needed. We got good at slicing bread, I thought. Anyway, I have some cool memories about Fred, that time, and the DeJongs.
We send our sympathies to Shirley and the family . We sure missed the Dejongs in the bakery when they left Vulcan.
Sincerely, Emmet & Roberta Meehan
Maurice and I have lost a true friend with the passing of Fred. Our condolences go out to Shirley and all their family.
As a friend of Winnie and Bill, I met Fred and Shirley in the summer of 1987 in their bakery in Vulcan. They hosted me and my friends and they are the most friendly people. I will never forget their muffins, freshly baked. And when I had to pick up a friend from the airport, Fred drove me to the airport and let me drive his car. For me, at the time a sign of trust from Fred in my driving skills. We met years later in Holland, and was it so good to meet each other. I will keep the memories of such a kind person in my heart. And this is not a goodby for ever, we will meet again in the New Jerusalem!
