Condolences
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Roy Gillespie. It was a befitting write up that honors a man who was ‘all in’ to support his family and a generous contributor to Calgary. As accomplished as Roy was he always had a warm hello or an unhurried time to chat. I particularly remember Roy as Governor of the 38th Oilmen's in 1988 and Boog as graceful hosts. The theme was 'Song of the South' and it was executed in beautiful colors. I still have my golf visor and I cherish the gifted mirrored jewel box that plays ''Dixie Land' so appropriate from our Texas girl Boog. Every Christmas I place her hand worked tree skirt on display. They were a striking and handsome couple and will be missed. My deepest condolensces to you all. Andrea McArthur
I'm so very sorry for your loss. I will always remember Roy as such a gentleman and so handsome; even when I was very young I thought Roy looked like a movie star. And I honestly can't recall a time when he wasn't smiling. He always made me feel like he was so happy to see me whenever we'd cross paths at the Millarville Races or on the golf course when I caddied for Dad (Russ Robinson). What a blessing that he had such a long and full life and to leave everyone with so many wonderful memories.

To the extended Gillespie family,
Our sincerest sympathies on the passing of Roy. At age 92, he led a long, happy and successful life. Roy was one of my father Russ Robinson's closest friends, and he was very kind to our family after our father passed away in 1986. Roy's youngest daughter called our dad "Big Russ" and that ended up being what his grandchildren called him as well. My parents went to Hawaii a few times with Roy and his family, and the trips sounded like they were a lot of fun. Roy and our dad did lots together - they had a number of interests in common and really got along very well. Roy will certainly be missed by all who knew him.
Sincerely, Susan Robinson Burns
My sincerest condolences to the family.

I'm so sad to see Roy go. He has been a constant in my life, as he and my Dad, Georges, hit it off. Both business and sports. Roy's enthusiasm for football, made us all fans. He was a constant source of trust, and loyalty. Roy could be counted on to solve problems. So many attributes, that I'm sure my Dad saw in Roy, led to a 55 year partnership, and thus still sharing an office in their senior years. I too, carried on my relationship with Roy, as he would not only carry on maintaining and helping his family, but also ours. He always perked up when talking about the many members of his family. I extend my condolences to all the Gillespie extended family, many of you that I have gotten to know better personally in the last years. I know you are all hurting and grieving, yet I join you in thinking that Roy is resting in peace now, with his liquorice, coke, surrounded by the presence of Syrah.

My deepest condolences to all of Roy's family. I met many of you at the Stampeder games where my seats were right next to Roy's. Roy and my Dad were the best of friends through the oil business and the Board of Directors of the Calgary Stampeders. Roy was always a delight to be around with his great sense of humour.
Roy Gillespie did everything "large" in this life - most especially the building of his family. He has so very many family members both near and far that loved him and today our thoughts and condolences go out to each of them as we say goodbye to a man that, himself, was so very "large".
Goodbye Uncle Roy
