Obituary of Dorothy B. Davis

Sept. 9, 1958 - Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, Philippines

June 5, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Dorothy Busbus Davis is also known as ‘Ruth’ to her family and friends. She was a beloved daughter of the late Ben and Emie Davis.  Adored sister of Geronides ‘Roni’, Florencia ‘Flor’, Tirso, and Max. She was always the cheerful fun aunt to Neil, Ian, Ema, Love, Steven, Mark, Gary, Anthony, and Gabriel.  She was a thoughtful and sweet grandma ‘lola’ to Mekenna, Ariana, Tristan, Sidney, and Gabriella Love.

Dorothy was born in 1958 and raised in Agusan del Norte, Philippines. She moved to Manila to study Electronic Communications and graduated as an engineer.  Prior to immigrating to Canada she was always a devoted aunt helping her sister, Roni to care and look after all her four young children at that time.  By 1986 she arrived in Calgary, Alberta and lived with her sister, Flor.  She was always grateful of her humble beginnings in Canada caring for children as their nanny in those early years. In most recent years, Dorothy was a kitchen staff of Bow View Nursing Home and occasional staff in Arbour Lake Retirement Homes, where she took pride and have always enjoyed working and caring for the elderlies.

By the end of April this year we were all heartbroken and shocked to learn of her diagnosis, endometrial cancer stage 4.  Dorothy and the whole family held on tight to God as our source of strength, grace and hope.  After a month of hospitalization, Dorothy was being cared for by the family at home until she passed away on June 5, 2020, surrounded by her siblings, her sister-in-law, nephews, nieces and grandkids. At her last days, the whole family was by her bedside singing worship songs to her, read the bible and devotions with her, and she prayed and surrendered it all to her creator until the end.

Dorothy was a lover of life, a woman with a constant smile on her face no matter what life throws at her.  She always finds reasons to laugh and giggle about everything.  She counts her blessings and always with a grateful heart to God in prayer. She was someone who always thrived in doing good for other people, especially for her family. Throughout her life in Canada, she has given many struggling students in the Philippines scholarships, the two years she sponsored three missionaries so the gospel of Jesus Christ can be shared in the middle east and Philippines, these are just to name a few.  Above all she left a legacy of kindness and compassion that will forever be marked in the hearts of her family and friends. We will never forget how up to her last night with us she gave us that beautiful smile once more.

The weight of losing her is unbearable, together with both her parents passing last year; our lives will never be the same again.  It is only in God that we find strength to bear such great losses and in Him we have hope in our hearts for the future.  Will trust in the Lord’s promise to see her/them again and our family reunited with our Almighty Heavenly Father. We thank the Lord for blessing us with Dorothy’s life and her legacy lives on in us. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Do’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
