Michael MAGUIRE

Obituary of Michael John MAGUIRE

June 13, 1956 – London, England

June 15, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that the family of Michael Maguire announces his passing on Monday, June 15, 2020 aged 64 and 2 days. He was taken far too soon and will be greatly missed by his family; mother Dr. Nancy Maguire, brother Brian (Sharon), and sisters, Liz (David) and Clare. He was predeceased by his father Derek (2005) and sister Pat (2001).

He will be sadly missed by all of his dear friends, in particular Barb, Ronnie and Angie and all of his singing, ski and church groups.

He was born in England in 1956 and immigrated to Canada with his older brother Brian and his parents, Nancy and Derek. The family later grew to include Liz, Pat and Clare. By all accounts he was a handful as a youth and continued to be so as he grew up but he always had a good heart, great plans and was always entertaining. He rarely did anything half way. He was the guy that always had to have the most toys; the best car, the best watch, the best lawn mower and any new electronics.  He loved his place in Yahk where he spent his best summer days with Mum and the gang.

Mike was an excellent athlete who excelled in skiing, volleyball, hockey, softball or any sport he attempted. He was competitive by nature and played to win at everything he did whether sports or board games.

He loved chocolate!  And we are quite sure, chocolate liked him too.

In addition to his many talents, Mike was the much loved “Uncle Mike” to Megan (Maguire) Boutin, Alan and Laura Zanotto, and Jamie and Kevin Miller.  He could always be counted on to buy the noisiest gifts, the biggest stuffed animals and to wind every child up just in time for bed.

We as a family can only say…. He was the best! He will be missed and we are heartbroken.
