Obituary of Rose MARANO

February 27, 1932 – Maibara, Japan March 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Yukiko Rose Marano (nee Kawamura) passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2018 at the age of 86, surrounded by family and close friends. Her passing followed a brave battle with cancer, which weakened her body but could not diminish her spirit and love of life. Rose came to Canada as a toddler in 1934 with her father Rev. Yutetsu Kawamura and her mother Yoneko. The family settled in the town of Raymond in southern Alberta and later moved to Picture Butte. She attended the Galt School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse. She worked as a surgical nurse at the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital and then as the Director of Nursing at the Picture Butte Municipal Hospital until her retirement. She married Harpo Moriyama in 1954 in Picture Butte and they raised two children, Deb and Rob. Several years after her divorce from Harpo she met and later married Nello Marano. The couple lived happily in Calgary, sharing their enjoyment of skiing, curling, golfing, dining, travel and family until Nello’s death. During this period Rose dedicated several years caring for her father prior to his passing. Rose will be remembered for her generous and thoughtful nature and love of friends and family. She was always happy to receive guests and make sure everyone was well fed, as she was a great cook. Friends will always smile recalling her doting over her pets Peppi and Scruffy. Most of all she will be remembered as a woman who made her own way through life, bravely facing the challenges life presented and gratefully living each day to its fullest. Rose is survived by her daughter Deb Moriyama (Doug Huff); her son Rob (Dona) Moriyama; step-daughters Nancy and Liana Marano; grandchildren Sean, Erin (Mike), Liana (Brian), Colby (Caitlin) and Kenzie (Dylan), Lorelei, Nello and Abigail; and great-grandchildren; sister Kathy Pung; brother Jerry Kawamura and sister-in-law Toyo; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Nello, brother Rev. Leslie Kawamura and parents.
