Lawrence beloved father and grandfather passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 at the age of 71 years.
He was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on April 30, 1949.
He moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1964.
Lawrence graduated from the SAIT Culinary School as a Red Seal Journeyman in 1970. He married Beverlie Pilcher in 1972. In addition to working as a chef in several well-known restaurants, he was also a member of the Canadian Federation of Chef’s de Cuisine. He ran and owned his own restaurant from 1980 to 1986. In 1991, he purchased an appliance repair business, which he operated until his retirement. In 1992 he acquired his journeyman certificate as an appliance serviceman.
Lawrence loved working in his shop and had many hobbies throughout his years; like building and flying model airplanes and crafting unique furniture. He often created pieces for members of his family and catalogued dozens of projects that he had built.
Lawrence will be most remembered for his tireless support of his family and friends and his willingness and ability to tackle any challenge life brought to him or the people he cared most deeply for.
He is survived by his former spouse Beverlie Johnson; his daughter Caroline Hulley and son-in-law Richard Hulley in Calgary, AB; and his son Peter Klassen and daughter-in-law Cherie Klassen in Edmonton, AB. Lawrence was incredibly proud of his three grandchildren, Noah, Alex and Gabrielle Klassen. He is also survived by his sister Rosella (John) Wyper in Saskatoon SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
