Obituary of Jo Ann Marie GOODWIN (nee Lauricella)

July 13, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
Jo Ann Goodwin, beloved mother of Allison and Jeff, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the age of 81 years.
Jo Ann was born in Rochester, New York, on November 25, 1938. She immigrated to Canada in 1973 after marrying Arthur Roy Goodwin on August 25, 1973. They lived in Scarborough, ON, for three years before moving west to Calgary, AB, where they raised their two children. Jo Ann and Art loved Calgary and enjoyed having friends and family from near and far visit for holidays, the 1988 Winter Olympics, and many special family occasions.
Jo Ann was a very active member of the community. While her children were growing up, she supported Silver Springs Elementary school with countless volunteer hours and remained close friends with many of the teachers and staff. She supported great causes like Inn From The Cold, and The Mustard Seed through her church St. Peter’s parish. She volunteered at Connaught School supporting their reading and literacy program. She had a generous heart and was very giving of her time to support those less fortunate or needing help.
Jo Ann enjoyed bowling, swimming, and cross-country skiing. Jo Ann and Art enjoyed taking cross country ski lessons, spending weekends at Lake Louise and Banff. She had a love for crafts and knitting, and was a member of the Out to Lunch Bunch, the Calgary Newcomers Club, and various crafts and knitting groups where she met many of her dear friends.
Jo Ann loved to travel and would take her children to Rochester every summer to be with her large extended Italian family. One of her most memorable vacations was when she and Art took an Alaskan cruise for their anniversary, which would be their last vacation together.
Jo Ann is survived by her daughter Allison and son-in-law Troy Stephenson, of Calgary, AB; her son Jeff and daughter-in-law Tammy Goodwin of Strathmore, AB; four grandchildren, Dehl Shaw, Reigh Goodwin, Josie Stephenson, and Xavier Stephenson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jo Ann was predeceased by her husband Arthur Goodwin, brother Thomas Lauricella, and parents, Samuel and Margaret Lauricella.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sage Hill Retirement Residence for the wonderful care Jo Ann received. Their compassion and care through this difficult time was immensely supportive to Jo Ann and her family.
