Obituary of Butch Durant CHINIQUAY

March 18, 1985 – Canmore, Alberta
July 12, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, grandson, relative, and friend, Butch Durant Chiniquay on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at the age of 35.

Butch was born and raised in Morley. He received his education at Morley Community School and Midford Middle School in Cochrane. In his younger years he was passionate about playing golf in the summers, and snowboarding in the winters. Butch was a humble, quiet, and kind person. He had a gentle humour about him, he enjoyed laughing and joking with family and friends.

Butch was very proud of his cultural teachings and values and carried them in everything he said and did. In his later years, he developed a passion for doing art, which became an outlet of expression for him.

He had a special love for his nephews, Tracy and Riggin; and his adoptive parents Verna & Tyrone.

He was a descendant of Chief John Cheneka, who was one of the signatories of Treaty 7 in 1877, and as such was part of the hereditary line of leadership.

He will be sadly missed by his mother Valerie, brother Kevin (Shelby), sisters, Vanessa, Nathanie, Diane (Joey); nieces, Leah, Kattia; nephews, Tracy, Riggin, Koda, Lucas; grandmother Lorna Bearspaw; aunties, Valerie, Melinda, Leanne, Pamela; uncles, Ronnie, Phelan, David (Ladan); and cousins Carmen and Tysa; also his companion, Amber.

He was predeceased by his father Randy Bearspaw, grandfathers, David Bearspaw, and Lawrence Chiniquay, and cousin Brody Chiniquay.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Valerie Chiniquay (Morley, AB) on Thursday, July 16, 2020.  Funeral Services will be held at the Morley Gymnasium (Morley, AB) on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.  Graveside Service to follow at Chiniquay Cemetery (Morley, AB).  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Butch’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
