Obituary of John Walker ADAIR

May 21, 1926 – Port Glasgow, Scotland March 5, 2018 – Calgary, AB Ian Adair passed away peacefully at home in Calgary on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the age of 91 years. Born and raised in Port Glasgow, Scotland, Ian was employed by Lithgows Ship Builders at the age of 15 where he completed his apprenticeship and studied at James Watt College, becoming a Technical Engineer, specializing in ship design. For the next 19 years, he would spend his time behind the drafting board designing ships for Lithgows. Ian’s friend and co-worker Jim Barclay had a sister Nan who he had taken a shine too, using Jim to make the match. Ian and Nan were married on June 1, 1955. Travelling across the “pond” to new lands, they stepped off on the shores of St. John, New Brunswick on New Year’s Eve 1959. Over the next thirty-two years, Ian worked in the shipyards in St. John, St. Catharines, Ontario, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. When he retired in 1991, he worked in Ottawa as Technical Manager on the frigate program for the Canadian Forces, nicknamed the “Paper Ship” program. In January 1965, while in hospital recovering from a broken leg and surgery, he met a case worker with Child and Family Services for Niagara. Shortly thereafter, Stephen came along in the form of a five week old baby that had been put up for adoption. Giving his heart to the Lord at 12 years old, Ian had a passion for ministry. Whether it was leading the singing, arms waving in time to the music, preaching from the pulpit, visiting seniors and convicts, or serving as an elder in his local assembly of Christians, his faithfulness was constant. In his last months, his routine of reading the Bible and praying for his family, friends and missionaries around the world never wavered even up to the last minute of his life. He would even talk with his care workers about the Lord, if they went to church and I’m sure was praying for all of them as well. He would have some of them read scripture and his “Daily Bread” to him. Today he sits with his Heavenly Father and his family that has gone on before him. You are missed here on Earth but the Heavens rejoice as you lead them in song. Ian is survived by his wife Nan; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Sandi; grandson Chris (Jaclyn); and granddaughter Samantha. He was predeceased by his father Alexander, mother Elizabeth, brother Willie, and sister Helen.
