Gail POULSEN

Obituary of Gail POULSEN

September 21, 1957 – Thunder Bay, Ontario
July 11, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Gail Irene Poulsen, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the age of 62.

Gail was born in Thunder Bay, ON on September 21, 1957 and moved west to Calgary, AB with her family when she was three years old.

Gail met the love of her life, Kim Poulsen, at the age of 19. They soon after were married in the summer of 1979. They spent ten amazing years travelling and building a life together before having their two daughters, Jennifer and Cassandra.

Before becoming a mother, Gail worked as a bank teller and manager for CIBC and TD Canada Trust for seventeen years. She kept her interest of business and sales alive by becoming a sales representative for Avon – a job she was very proud of and something she could manage while raising her family.

Above everything else, Gail was a mother first. Her two daughters and husband gave her purpose and she always wore the title of wife and mother proudly. Besides dedicating her time trying to keep her family in line she also enjoyed travelling to warm places including Hawaii and Barbados. However, her yearly summer getaway to Penticton, B.C. was always her favorite as it reminded her of her late father and mother Michael and Anne Sabados.

Gail could always be caught with her head in a good book, which in her opinion MUST include a murder or scandal of some kind to “keep things interesting”. Her love of this genre also seeped onto her television screen as you would rarely catch her watching anything but investigation discovery or police shows.

Gail was a lover of animals, a fact that she made evident by calling her children’s pets her five “grandbabies” who she spoiled beyond measure. She also donated to many different animal relief funds. In addition, Gail immensely enjoyed giving back to her community by donating to multiple organizations that were near and dear to her heart including: the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and STARS air ambulance.

Besides her loving husband, Kim, Gail will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jennifer and Cassandra Poulsen. She will be missed by her brother Ronald Sabados; sisters, Susan Papp and Karen Sabados; as well as countless nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. She will also be missed dearly by her cat Storm.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the incredible staff who cared for Gail at South Health Campus who showed immense kindness and support during a very difficult time.
