July 17, 2020 -Siksika, Alberta

With great sadness we announce the passing of our brother, Stacy Black who left to be with his mother, brothers and family on Friday, July 17, 2020 at the age of 50 years.

Stacy was a simple man who lived life to the fullest and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was born at the Calgary General Hospital on May 18, 1970.

 Stacy was a genuine horse lover and he loved and cared for his horse Lightning. He was an active member of the Siksika Rodeo community, as well as the Canadian Indian Relay Association. His team was called Flatz Crew. His skill and passion was seen at ranches of family and friends where he participated in branding and breaking horses. He was known to his close friends as ‘Black.’

 He was employed with Siksika Housing as a Journeymen Carpenter for his entire career. He was a very skilled carpenter and he loved his work. He took the Siksika Small Business Course and had many plans of one day owning his own business. He was a very intelligent man and he had many good business ideas. He was also involved in several honorary rides for Siksika such as Castle Mountain, Commemoration, & Cypress Hills.

He was an active negotiator with the Siksika Castle Mountain settlement team in the early years where he met many people and formed many lasting friendships. He and Miles owned their own carpentry business for many years. He shared his many skills by teaching others carpentry and roofing. He enjoyed traveling extensively with his longtime companion Carla and they had many adventures together where ever they went. He was a firefighter with Alberta Wildfire. He played baseball for many years with his family team the Bandits and the Magpies.

He leaves to mourn his Dad Billy Black, his children Jim & Meryl, his longtime companion Carla Waterchief, his beloved grandchildren Aniko, Shadessa, Taylor, Carlin, Cain, Taige, Trevor, Innspapaonokiiksisstsiko & JT Lain. His family Michele, Ritchie & Shallon, Wanda, Chelsea, Charlize, Charloz, Charizma, Chelayah, Charlitoz, Dale, Ra’jon, Teddy, Selenaz, & Ernestoz, Duke, Chandel, Charidel, Passion, D’Liyah, Anze, & Gemma, Cheryl (Dean), JD (Kassie), Jayden, Tai’Tum, Keda, Dustin, Aries, Kaytin, Kason, Dallas, & BilliJo (Tyrel), Anthony & Legend, Melanie (Shane), Joanne (Jason), Paityn, Treyanne, Rylee, Xavier, Sheena, Shawna, Shane Jr., Melveen Loftus, Warren, Riley, & Aylah. Goddaughter Jasmine Black, adopted siblings Jody, Miles, Trudy, Jill, & Nicole, as well as all his brothers and sisters from the Old Woman family; paternal aunties and uncles, Rosemary (Robert) Bull Bear, Randy Spring Chief, Paulette (Glen), Martina, Melvina, Elizabeth, Tommy & Chucky McHugh, Sadie, Ray Amato, Eve Yellow Old Woman family, Mike Rabbit Carrier family; maternal aunts and uncles, Rose Red Gun, Daisy (Ferris) Smith, Gwen (Robert), Liz (Alvin) Big Crow, Mandel (Monique), Arlene & Joelle; extended families, McHugh’s, Francis family, Michael Rabbit Carrier family, Amato’s, Wadsworths, Wolflegs, Christine Little Chief family, Blacks, McMasters, Olds/Old Womans, Joe Medicine Shield family, and Donna Jean Raweater family. The family would like to apologize to anyone we may have missed.

He was predeceased by his mother Joanne; son TJ Waterchief, EJ ; and his brothers, Billy Jack and Sheldon.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Billy Black on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral to follow on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Billy’s residence. Graveside service to follow at the Canon Stockton Cemetery.
