Ann MCGEACHIE

Obituary of Ann MCGEACHIE

February 28, 1944 - Milngavie, Scotland

July 22, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Ann  McGeachie, beloved wife of George McGeachie of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at the age of 76 years.

Ann was born in Milngavie, Scotland, on February 28, 1944, to James and Jenny Murray.

After completing her secretarial training at Stow College in Glasgow,  Ann worked as an executive secretary for the House of Fraser Department store in Glasgow, Scotland, for 12 years.

On June 13, 1970, Ann married George at St. Aloysius Church,  Garnethill, Glasgow. Their wedding photo made the society page of The Glasgow Illustrated Magazine. Their son, George Murray, was born in Glasgow in 1971.

Showing great courage, Ann and her family left Scotland, and immigrated to Canada in September, 1973. They settled in Toronto, Ontario, where Colin was born in 1975. Five years later, the family made another big move, this time settling in Calgary in February, 1980.

It was in this home that Ann would remain, and it was here that her creativity and artfulness was expressed through her gardening and decorating.

Ann had a passion for current events, and was knowledgeable and ready to share her view on what was happening locally and internationally. She enjoyed following the English Premier League, and was a fan of Manchester United. Ronaldo was her favorite player, and she was always current on the standings and results.

One of Ann’s other passions was her dogs. As a child, she had a beloved poodle, and her love for canines continued with Rover, Rex, and Seumas. She enjoyed taking them for walks, and savouring their companionship.

Ann exemplified the Murray Clan Motto of “Tout Pret” (Quite Ready), as she was always ready to come up with inventive ideas, do the right thing, show compassion to all those around her, or face adversity with bravery. She was a strong-willed, proud Murray and Scotswoman. Ann was the best mum one could ask for, and was the anchor of her family.

Besides her loving husband, Ann is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law,  George M. and Andrea McGeachie of Calgary, and Colin and Andrea McGeachie of Airdrie; her three grandchildren, Mikyla, George, and Selene; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ann was predeceased by both of her parents, James and Janet (Jenny) Murray, as well as sister, Marion Murray; and Seumas, Rex, and Rover, her beloved dogs.
